Fratarica
The Loka Wall Descent
Fratarica is the stream with the highest elevation difference in Slovenia. It descends roughly 1,000 metres from snowfields beneath the Loka Wall (Loška stena), the longest rock face in the country, dropping through dozens of waterfalls on its way down. The result is a gorge that feels like it was designed for canyoning.
Two landmark waterfalls define the descent. The 20 metre Cathedral comes first. Then the 48 metre Parabola, which drops over an overhanging wall into a small pool where the bravest visitors swim. Both are descended by rope. The use of rope is mandatory for three waterfalls; for the rest it is only recommended.
Between the waterfalls: jumping into emerald pools, descending natural slides, swimming through narrow gorge sections, and discovering spots accessible only with canyoning equipment. The panoramas from inside the canyon are something few people ever see.
Fratarica is suitable for anyone who enjoys being active and is comfortable with heights. Previous canyoning experience is not required. Reasonable fitness and a sense of adventure are all you need.

Your canyoning day
Check in at Aktivni Planet Outdoor Sports Center in Bovec (or our town-center office in early and late season).
Wetsuit, boots, helmet, harness. Fitted properly, sized for comfort and a confident start. You will look ridiculous and feel invincible.
Short drive to Log pod Mangartom, the trailhead beneath the Loka Wall. Good time to ask your guide anything.
A short walk to the canyon entrance. Quick rundown on safety and technique, then you step into the water.
Cathedral. Parabola. Emerald pools between waterfalls you rappel down. A gorge most people never knew existed.
A short exit hike, van back to base. Change, relax at Planet Bar, swap stories from the gorge.
